RPI Great Beginnings - Writing like Readers; Reading like Writers

 I am very lucky to work with such keen and interested kids. This week we have worked on writing for purpose, to explain, to entertain, to create suspense...

One of the activities that we have looked at as part of the RPI was a task where students were asked to rewrite an opening passage for a text using similar structure, vocabulary, and tone. 

This was the prompt we used;

We discussed the language features used, and how precise words were used to created precise meaning, and unpacked some of the unfamiliar vocabulary like loch, and shroud, as well as the onomatopoeia  and the similes that the author used. 

I didn't want to prompt them too much, aside from providing the scaffold that we used in RPI (see below)
